Strict rules and clear procedures: The Ministry of energy begins a process of aligning the Law on vehicles with European Regulations

The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources is starting a process for harmonization of the Law on vehicles with the EU Regulation 2018/858 and the modern standards in the procedures for approval, import and supervision of vehicles.

To provide clear guidance for aligning the law on vehicles, a working meeting was held, being led by d-r Robert Jeroncic, distinguished expert from the Republic of Slovenia with a long-term experience in development and implementation of the European legislative for vehicles.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Bureau of Metrology, the Customs Administration, the Metrological Council and several other relevant institutions involved in the procedures for approval, import and control of vehicles.

Minister Sanja Bozhinovska was also present at the meeting, emphasizing the need for a systematic and consistent approach in implementation of the legislative in this field.

The Macedonian Law on vehicles must finally begin to be applied consistently and in alignment to European rules. It is time to seriously accelerate the processes and to establish clear, precise and predictable procedures”, minister Bozhinovska stressed. She added that the institutions have already received clear guidelines for accelerated and substantial harmonization with the EU regulations “.

The purpose of the meeting was to define concrete steps for the final establishment of a harmonized, clear and predictable system that will ensure:

  • Complete adaptation of the national legislation with the European regulation,
  • Modern procedures for approval and import of vehicles,
  • More strict and efficient supervision
  • Strengthened institutional order at all phases of the processfrom documentation to control.

Through the exchange of practices and expertise, the meeting confirmed the joint commitment to establishing order, greater transparency and full alignment with European standards. As continuation of today’s work, a specialized workshop on the same topic will be held tomorrow, at which all relevant institutions and professional departments will participate. The workshop aims to finalize the technical guidelines and prepare concrete amendments to modernize the Law on vehicles.

The Ministry continues to work actively and systematically on harmonization with the European legislation and strengthening institutional mechanisms for control and supervision to build modern, secure and transparent vehicle market.
