The Ministry of energy and EBRD finalize strategic projects for 2026

The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska held a working meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), whereas the strong joint focus on advancing energy infrastructure and accelerating reform processes in the country was confirmed.

During the meeting, several strategic projects that will begin next year were discussed, among which the project for the battery energy system with a capacity of 300 MWh.

„EBRD remains one of our most important partners in the energy sector. At the meeting, we agreed on the finalization of several strategic projects important for 2026, including the battery energy system project at ESM with a total capacity of 300 MWh. This project is crucial for the stability and flexibility of the energy system”, minister Bozhinovska emphasized.

Further steps in preparation for introducing of ESCO-model in the country were discussed at the meeting. Both sides reviewed possible areas for pilot projects and the model of institutional cooperation that will ensure smooth implementation.

The ESCO model is a business/financial model whereas the company-ESCO invests in the infrastructure for energy savings.

„The ESCO-model is a new opportunity for citizens, institutions and the entire system– model that delivers real results. Our goal is to create clear framework, predictable procedures and readiness for its gradual introduction“, the minister added.

The Ministry of energy and the EBRD agreed to continue with joint technical preparations in the coming period, with a clear focus on ensuring conditions for fast and successful realization of the projects that will directly strengthen the energy security of the country.
