The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozinovska, held a bilateral meeting in Astana with the minister of energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Akkenzhenov.
At the meeting, the experiences of the two countries in implementing the energy transition, the role of critical minerals in the green economy, as well as the potential for cooperation in the area of ​​renewable energy sources, geological exploration and investment opportunities were discussed.
Minister Bozinovska stressed that Macedonia is committed to building a sustainable and transparent model for the use of domestic mineral resources and that regional and international cooperation is a key prerequisite for successfully managing global energy challenges.
“Exchanging experiences with countries like Kazakhstan, which have a strong tradition and expertise in the energy sector, is important for our country in the process of building a sustainable energy future”, minister Bozinovska said.
Minister Akkenzhenov welcomed Macedonia's commitment to a green transition and noted that Kazakhstan sees opportunities for cooperation with the Western Balkan countries, especially in the area of ​​exchanging technical knowledge and access to new technologies. "Kazakhstan is ready to share experiences and build new partnerships with countries that have a clear vision for energy development and rational use of resources", minister Akkenzhenov emphasized.
The meeting took place in a constructive and open atmosphere, with both ministers agreeing that there is real potential for deepening cooperation between Macedonia and Kazakhstan in the field of energy. Specific opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise were identified, especially in relation to the development of hydrogen as an energy source of the future - an area in which Kazakhstan already has active and advanced projects.
In addition, it was pointed out that Kazakhstan's experience in establishing and implementing battery energy storage systems could be of great benefit to Macedonia in the process of stabilizing and modernizing the national energy system.
At the end of the meeting, minister Bozinovska invited minister Akkenzhenov to visit Macedonia and participate in the International Forum to be held in Skopje in October, organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources. The Forum will represent an important platform for promoting regional and international cooperation in the sector.
In the afternoon, мinister Bozinovska will address at the plenary session entitled “The Resource Race: Who Controls the Green Future” within the framework of the Astana International Forum.
