PREPARED FOR CRISIS: North Macedonia finalizes assessment for secure gas supply in line with EU standards

The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources completed one of the key phases in strengthening the country’s energy securitythe public hearing on the Gas Supply Risk Assessment was successfully held, in cooperation with the European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) and representatives of the domestic gas industry.

With this, North Macedonia practically finalized the national Risk Assessment process, carried out fully in compliance with the European legislation on security of gas supplya step that positions the country ahead of most states in the region, particularly within the   Energy community membership.

The process is not merely formal alignment with the EU, but a substantive strengthening of the system: clear identification of risks, scenarios for potential disruptions and concrete response mechanisms. In doing so, the state is building a resilient and predictable energy system, prepared for crisis situations.

In the next phase, the Risk Assessment will be submitted for formal approval to the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat. Based on its findings and recommendations, two key strategic documents will be prepared:

  • Preventive Action plan
  • Plan for crisis situations

These documents will be prepared with direct mentorship and technical support by JRC, which further guarantees quality and full compliance with European standards.

Through this activity, the Ministry of energy delivers a concrete result: increased security of gas supply, improved institutional preparedness and strengthened regional coordination. In conditions of global energy uncertainty, this means stability for the economy and security for the citizens.

Minister Sanja Bozhinovska emphasizes that energy security is built through systematic solutions and partnerships with relevant European institutionsprecisely like this process, which positions North Macedonia one step ahead of the region.

Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources
