The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska attended the final technical inspection and verification of the measuring system of the product pipeline serving for transport of diesel fuel from the Thessaloniki Refinery to the OKTA Refinery in Skopje. With the successfully completed inspection, the accuracy, precision, and full functionality of the system were confirmed, thereby fulfilling all technical and control preconditions for its commissioning. Therefore, the product pipeline resumes operation after 13 years interruption, representing significant step toward strengthening security in supply of petroleum products and modernizing the energy infrastructure.
The inspection was carried out by the Bureau of metrology, with participation of representatives from the Czech Metrology Institute (CMI) and the “Metron” laboratory from Thessaloniki, and in the presence of the representatives from the Customs service. Together with the authorized and expert staff from the Bureau, they examined the accuracy and the metrological characteristics of the system to confirmed that the measuring equipment operates precisely, reliably and according to the highest standards.
Minister Bozhinovska emphasized that technical correctness and measurement accuracy are key preconditions for the safe and transparent functioning of the energy infrastructure.
„This is an important step toward establishing a secure and modern system for supplying derivatives. Precise measurement, control and international verification mean trust, stability and long-term energy security for the country “, Bozhinovska underlined.
The product pipeline, which started functioning in 2002 for transport of crude oil, underwent investments after 2013 to convert it into infrastructure for transporting diesel fuel. The system has a total length of 213,5 kilometers.
The infrastructure includes 15 block-valve stations for improved management and a high level of safety, storage capacities of 80.000 м³ in Greece and 30.000 м³ in North Macedonia, as well as modern SCADA system for real-time monitoring of pressure, temperature and flow, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.
The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources remains committed to developing a modern, secure and sustainable energy infrastructure, as the foundation for stable supply and economic development.
With regards,
Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources
