Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the energy sector with Croatia alongside a Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed, possibilities for new projects and investments  

The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska and her Croatian counterpart, the minister of economy of the Republic of Croatia, Ante Shushnjar, today, in Ohrid, signed the Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. The Memorandum was signed within the working agenda during the visit of the high-level Croatian delegation in the country, led by the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic.

As part of the official programme, a Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Croatia and North Macedonia was also signed by the two Prime Ministers, Hristijan Mickoski and Andrej Plenkovic.  

The visit of the Croatian delegation was concluded with a Business Forum, whereas representatives of the Macedonian and Croatian business communities attended. The possibilities for future cooperation across several sectors, among which possibilities for realization of new projects and investments in the energy sector were presented.  

„Today, energy is one of the most important strategic sectors for Europe and the entire region. The war in Ukraine, as well as developments in the Middle East, have clearly shown that energy security is no longer only economic issue, but also a geopolitical and security matter. Therefore, countries that know how to cooperate, invest and build joint infrastructure projects, will be stronger, more stable and more resilient to future challenges“, minister Bozhinovska emphasized in her address at the Forum.

The Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the energy sector between North Macedonia and Croatia signed today is a result of the friendly relations and long-standing mutual cooperation between the two countries, based on the strategic commitment of North Macedonia for EU membership, taking into account its obligations under the Energy Community Treaty and the importance of the gradual alignment with EU energy legislation. 

The objective of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector between the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources of North Macedonia and the Ministry of economy of Croatia is creating a framework for advancing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector including: strengthening energy security and regional

interconnections; enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources and the transition to low-carbon systems; electricity market integration and regulatory convergence with EU rules as well as support for institutional capacity building, exchange of knowledge and joint initiatives.

The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources will continue to promote the expansion of regional cooperation as a precondition for a successful energy transition through implementation of projects and investments, aimed at establishing a stable and reliable energy system.
