The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today, setting a clear and long-term framework for joint action in the fields of energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and sustainable development.
The Memorandum was signed by the minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, and the UNDP Resident Representative in North Macedonia, Armen Grigoryan. The Memorandum strengthens institutional cooperation between both parties, opening space for coordinated activities aimed at just and inclusive energy transition, strengthening the country’s energy independence and resilience, as well as fulfilling national and international climate goals.
„This Memorandum is a strong confirmation of our commitment for modern, sustainable, and just energy transition. Through the partnership with UNDP, we achieve additional expertise and support for creating and implementing policies that bring tangible benefits to citizens, economy, and the environment “, the minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska stated.
The cooperation will be implemented in line with national priorities and the UNDP Programme document for the Republic of North Macedonia for the period 2026–2030, with special focus on good governance, transparency, and active public involvement in decision-making processes related to energy.
„UNDP remains a committed partner to institutions in North Macedonia in advancing sustainable development. This Memorandum creates a strong foundation for joint work in the energy sector, with a focus on clean energy, reducing emissions and inclusive public dialogue “, the UNDP Resident representative, Armen Grigoryan.
The Memorandum foresees joint activities in the development of the energy sector, mining and management of mineral resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions through increased use of renewable sources and energy efficiency measures, as well as support in drafting and implementing national strategies, legislation, and action plans in the field of energy.
A particularly important segment of the cooperation is directed toward strengthening institutional, technical and human capacities, through building expertise and improving processes for creating and implementing public policies, as well as enhancing transparency and inclusive public dialogue, with particular focus on youth, women and vulnerable groups of citizens. The partnership also foresees joint organization of national and international events, forums and initiatives dedicated to sustainable development and energy transition.
The Memorandum is concluded for a period of four years, with the possibility of extension, and represents a significant step toward deepening cooperation between the Ministry of energy and UNDP aimed at sustainable and secure energy future for North Macedonia.
