The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources continues with implementation of reforms in the energy sector and introducing modern regulatory framework. After nearly 19 years of applying the Rulebook on the quality of liquid fuels, a new Regulation on the quality of liquid fuels has entered into force. It introduces precise fuel quality standards, greater consumer protection, fairer conditions for businesses and a more orderly domestic market.
The new Regulation establishes clear and modern rules regarding the types of liquid fuels that may be placed on the domestic market, how their quality is determined and how compliance will be monitored. For the citizens, this means greater confidence that the fuels that they use meet the defined quality standards, while clearly defined rules and control mechanisms further strengthen consumer protection.
The Regulation was adopted pursuant to Article 257 paragraph (1) of the new Energy Law, upon the proposal of the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources and represents a significant step forward in modernizing the regulatory framework in this area.
It comprehensively regulates the types and characteristics of the liquid fuels which can be placed on the market, the methods for determining fuel quality, quality monitoring procedures, and the obligations of all participants at the market of crude oil, oil derivates and transport fuels.
The new regulation introduces equal rules for all participants in the market, reducing the opportunities for abuse and unfair competition. As a result, companies operating in compliance with legal requirements will benefit from a fairer and more predictable business environment.
Additionally, the application of higher quality standards for liquid fuels will contribute also to reducing harmful emissions into the environment, representing an important step toward cleaner environment and a more sustainable energy sector.
The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska emphasized that the adoption of the new Regulation constitutes another major reform through which the Ministry introduces modern rules and higher standards in the sector.
„After nearly 19 years we are replacing outdated regulations with a new one that introduces clear rules and standards. Our goal is to provide citizens with greater confidence in the quality of the fuels they use, ensure that companies operating legally are protected from unfair competition, and enable the market to function according to clear and equal rules. This is about establishing order-this way we protect the citizens, we protect the honest businesses, and we build a modern and trustworthy energy sector“, minister Bozhinovska stated.
With the adoption of the new Regulation, the Ministry continues with the implementation of the new Energy law and the gradual replacement of outdated regulations with modern legislation that provides a higher level of public interest protection, greater legal certainty, and a more organized, competitive and transparent liquid fuels market.
