The gas interconnector with Greece enters into significantly more intensive phase of realization. Following the intensive coordination among the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources, NOMAGAS and the greek operator DESFA, the construction activity has intensified and the project is marking visible progress on site.
The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, together with the representatives of the Ministry, DESFA and NOMAGAS reviewed the progress of construction works along the route of the gas interconnector with Greece. They were informed by the contractor about the ongoing project activities, as well as that conditions are made for significant acceleration for construction.
At the moment, 95 percent of the expropriation are completed, and around 85 percent of the route has been dealt with, also the production of all pipes planned for realizaton of the project is completed. Up until now, pipes in length of 34 kilometers have been delivered, out of which 21 kilometer are already deployed along the route. Welding has been completed on 13.7 kilometers of pipeline, with more than 800 successful welds carried out, and over 6,300 meters of pipe have already been laid underground. At the same time, six of the seven planned road crossings have been completed, and approximately 65 percent of the associated equipment and block stations have been secured.
The contractor has been further technically equipped with automatic welding machines, which will enable a significant acceleration of the works and ensure compliance with the planned implementation schedule.
The field visit follows the working meetings that the Ministry held with the executive director of NOMAGAS, Nedim Rama, and the chief executive director of DESFA, Maria Sferruzza and the DESFA team, at which the joint commitment for intensive coordination and realization of the project according deadlines was confirmed. Also, the joint assesment that the interconnector will be completed next year was confirmed as well.
„This project represents investment in energy security, economic stability and the future country’s development. Our priority is the project to be implemented with quality, on time and with maximum dynamics. The process is accelerated and all institutions work in coordination for sucessful completion of this strategic investment“, minister Bozhinovska said.
The gas interconnector with Greece is one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects. By its realization, the state will secure new entry of natural gas, access to multiple supply sources, bigger diversification and higher level of energy security, as well as stronger connection with the regional and European energy infrastructure.
