The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources participated at the 41st meeting of the Energy Efficiency Coordination Group – EECG of the Energy Community, held at Tirana, Albania. Representatives from the contracting parties of the Energy Community, the European Commission, international financial institutions and donors participated in the event, aimed at exchanging experience and coordination policies and investments in the field of energy efficiency. Biljana Matevska, special advisor for energy efficiency and climate change, participated at the event as a representative from the Ministry.
At the meeting, the Ministry presented Macedonia’s achievements in the field of energy efficiency, with particular accent on the implementation of measures under the National energy and climate plan (NECP) and the Reform agenda, the preparation of the key bylaws, as well as the activities aimed at acceleration of the reconstruction of buildings and advancement of their energy performances.
Emphasis was placed on the implementation of the principle Energy Efficiency First – (EE1st). The Ministry reported on the established legal framework, the activities undertaken to integrate this principle into planning processes and investment decision-making, as well as on the national contribution to the Energy Community’s reporting process.
At the same time, the achieved results were presented, as well as the challenges and next steps for practical implementation of this principle, which represents one of the key policies of the European Union and the Energy Community.
The Ministry also presented the ongoing activities that are realized within the PEEB Cool program, with a particular focus on the preparation of the first National inventory of public buildings in Macedonia. This inventory, which will systematically cover public buildings for the first time, will provide a comprehensive database of their technical and energy characteristics and will serve as a basis for creating policies, prioritization of investments and successful implementation of the Plan for reconstruction of buildings, as well as for the future Strategy on reconstruction of buildings.
At the meeting it was highlighted that Macedonia is among the countries that actively work on alignment with European policies in the field of energy efficiency and climate goals. In parallel, the need for accelerated implementation of measures, strengthening the systems for monitoring and verification, as well as strengthening regional cooperation for implementation of National energy and climate plans was emphasized.
Participation at such international meetings, as estimated by the Ministry, is of significant meaning for positioning Macedonia as an active and credible partner in the regional energy transition, for access to new financial instruments and for exchange of best European practices.
The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources remains committed to implementation of reforms and development of policies that will contribute toward energy stability, lower expenses for citizens, decarbonization and sustainable economic development, in accordance with the obligations toward Energy Community and the European Union accession process.
