Bozinovska with a message on the 20th anniversary of the Energy Community– market integration for a more sustainable future

The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozinovska, participated at the Informal Ministerial Council of the Energy Community, which was held in Athens, Greece. This important event, held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Energy Community, brought together ministers from the member states to discuss key steps towards the full integration of the energy markets between the European Union and the Contracting Parties.

At the Council, minister Bozinovska gave an address in which she highlighted the commitment of the Republic of Macedonia to the shared vision of a more integrated, cleaner and more secure energy future. The focus of the discussions was on accelerating market integration, which will support climate adaptation and strengthen the energy security of the region. The minister presented Macedonia’s achievements, including the designation of MEMO as a Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO) in June 2025, as well as the progress in the adoption of legislation and cooperation with ACER, ENTSO-E and regional partners.

In addition to market integration, the Council discussed environmental reforms and climate goals. The minister emphasized that Macedonia, with the support of the Energy Community, is actively working on the implementation of the European directives on environmental impact assessment, air quality, emission control from large combustion plants and strategic environmental planning. These measures contribute to a cleaner environment, healthier communities and long-term energy stability.

The 20th anniversary of the Energy Community was an opportunity to recognize the successes achieved so far and to reaffirm the commitment to further cooperation. Minister Bozinovska expressed her gratitude for the key role of the Energy Community in supporting Macedonia’s reforms and integration towards European standards, stressing the importance of joint efforts to achieve the decarbonization and climate neutrality goals. Macedonia remains committed to the vision of an energy-integrated and sustainable Europe.

Sincerely,

Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources
