The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources informs that the collection of fees for the exploitation of mineral resources in the second quarter of 2025 reached a record of 260,379,123.00 MKD. This represents a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 133,576,534 MKD were collected.
This success follows the exceptional results of the first quarter of 2025, when 260,327,223.00 MKD were collected, which is more than double compared to 110,576,324 MKD in the first quarter of 2024. In total, for the first six months of 2025, the Ministry achieved a collection of over 500,000,000 MKD, which is a historic success in the management of the natural resources of the Republic of Macedonia.
The Ministry expects this number to grow given the fact that reminders have been sent to concessionaires who have not yet regulated their obligation to do so within the deadline.
These achievements are a direct result of the Ministry’s dedicated activities to improve collection and strengthen control over concessionaires’ obligations, including:
• Enhanced inspection controls: Regular and extraordinary field checks to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
• Written warnings and sanctions: Warnings have been sent to concessionaires for timely settlement of obligations, with unilateral termination of contracts for those who do not comply with the law. Procedures are underway to terminate a dozen more contracts.
• New Tariff from January 1st 2025: A new Tariff has been introduced that increases the amount of the fees by 100%, which provides a correct value for the use of natural resources. Key changes include:
• Increase in the fee for the use of space for exploitation by about 30%.
• Fee for the exploitation of marble: 5% of the revenue from the sold raw material.
• Increase in the fee for metallic minerals from 2% to 4%.
• Average increase of over 100% for non-metallic minerals.
These changes do not apply to energy minerals, such as coal, in order to protect citizens from additional pressure on electricity prices.
Increased budgets for municipalities and sustainable development
The increased collection directly contributes to increasing the budgets of the municipalities where concessionaires operate, as well as the state budget. These funds are invested in:
· Construction and maintenance of communal infrastructure.
· Energy transition and sustainable development projects.
· Environmental protection initiatives.
The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources remains committed to establishing the highest standards for transparent and fair management of natural resources. These results are proof of our determination to strengthen the economic benefits of the exploitation of minerals, while ensuring sustainable development and support for local communities.
With regards,
Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources
