The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources, together with NOMAGAS and the Greek natural gas transmission system operator DESFA, have aligned the next steps for the implementation of the gas interconnector between Macedonia and Greece–one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects for the country and the region.
At the working meetings held at the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources, whereas the minister Sanja Bozhinovska, the NOMAGAS AD Skopje CEO, Nedim Rama and the DESFA CEO, Maria Sferruzza attended, the ongoing construction activities on both sides of the border, as well as the implementation timeline for the contractual obligations were reviewed.
The discussion focused on reaffirming the joint commitment to complete the project within the agreed timeframe through close coordination between the institutions and transmission system operators, aimed at ensuring new, secure and diversified approach to natural gas for Macedonia.
A joint assessment that the gas interconnector will be completed during next year in line with the established implementation schedule and project plan was confirmed at the meetings.
Particular emphasis at the meeting between minister Bozhinovska and the DESFA CEO was placed on the regional „Vertical Gas Corridor “ initiative, which represents an important opportunity to enhance regional energy connectivity, strengthen security of supply and integration of national energy markets into the broader European energy flows.
„The gas interconnector with Greece is a strategic project that directly strengthens the country’s energy security and creates new possibilities for supply diversification. Our goal is to ensure that Macedonia has stable access to multiple energy sources and supply routes, while infrastructure projects such as this are essential for increasing the independence, competitiveness and resilience of the energy system“, minister Sanja Bozhinovska emphasized.
NOMAGAS CEO, Nedim Rama, stressed that the successful implementation of the project requires continuous coordination and partnership among all stakeholders involved, while DESFA CEO, Maria Sferruzza reaffirmed the Greek transmission system operator’s commitment for timely and successful completion of the interconnector.
The gas interconnector with Greece is a key investment in energy future of Macedonia. Once completed, it will provide the country with access to new sources of natural gas, strengthen its energy security and enhance its position within the regional and European energy infrastructure.
