Bozhinovska with intensive diplomatic activity at the Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Forum in Athens

The Minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, participated at the ministerial meeting held within the framework of the Sixth Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) in Athens, with the participation of energy ministers from more than twenty European countries.

Bozhinovska, on the sidelines of the summit, held a series of important bilateral meetings dedicated to strengthening regional cooperation, infrastructure connectivity and diversification of energy sources.

Minister Bozhinovska met with the US Secretary of energy, Chris Wright and the Greek minister of energy, Stavros Papastavrou but also had a meeting with the minister of energy of Bulgaria, Zhecho Stankov, at which the current and future activities related to regional energy cooperation between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, with a special emphasis on strategic infrastructure projects in the electricity and gas sectors were reviewed.

The two ministers highlighted the importance of the East – West Transmission Corridor (EWTC) project as a key initiative for strengthening regional connectivity, market integration and increasing renewable energy capacities, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.

Bulgarian initiative to expand the gas infrastructure near the North Macedonian border, which will contribute to greater availability and lower gas prices, as well as increased energy security in the region was also discussed. In this regard, the two sides agreed to organize a joint meeting between representatives of the two countries for better coordination and exchange of information on joint projects.

Bozhinovska also had a constructive meeting with the CEO of the Greek Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (IPTO – ADMIE), Mr. Manousakis, at which they discussed about deepening technical cooperation and opportunities for new interconnections that will contribute to a stable and sustainable regional energy system.

“The attention for North Macedonia at the P-TEC forum was clear – it is a confirmation that our country is an active and reliable partner when it comes to energy stability, strategic investments and a secure future for the region”, minister Bozhinovska said.

She expressed special gratitude to the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and to the Greek minister of environment and energy, Stavros Papastavrou for the support and attention towards North Macedonia.

The minister, on the sidelines of the forum, also spoke with the Croatian minister of economy Ante Susnjar, the minister of еnergy, trade and industry of Cyprus, Giorgos Papanastasiou, as well as with Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director-General for energy at the European Commission.

The P-TEC forum, which brings together energy ministers from 25 countries from Europe and North America, is a leading platform for dialogue and policy coordination towards a secure, clean and connected energy future.
