The Minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska visited the accredited laboratory for testing electricity meters at Electricity Distribution, which for more than a decade has served to control measurement and the accuracy of meters.
The visit followed the 13-th regular supervisory assessment carried out by the Institute for accreditation of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Bureau of metrology under the Ministry of еnergy, which this year once again confirmed that the Meter Inspection Body fully meets the requirements of the international standard MKC EN ISO/IEC 17020.
The Electricity Distribution team presented to the Minister in detail the technology, procedures, and safety protocols applied in the process of metrological testing of meters. Minister Bozhinovska reviewed the modern equipment, including seven testing stations produced by the German company EMH, and met with engineers and professional staff who daily ensure precise, reliable and transparent testing of meters used by consumers across the country.
“Precise testing of meters is a key segment in building trust among consumers, because every citizen must be certain that they are paying for the real consumed energy. The results of the latest supervisory assessment confirm that the Meter Inspection Body of Electricity Distribution fully meets the requirements”, minister Bozhinovska stated.
The minister added that the Ministry of energy will continue with regular visits and inspections of such institutions, in order to personally verify the accuracy, transparency, and quality of processes that are of the greatest importance to citizens.
“Such laboratories must be modern, certified and credible so that citizens know there is a place where they can check the accuracy and correctness of their meter. This is a matter of fairness, trust and public interest”, Bozhinovska emphasized.
During the visit to the laboratory, the director of the Bureau of metrology, Sedat Rushani, also attended alongside minister Bozhinovska. The Ministry informed that modern equipment for state control and verification of meters, which had been unused for many years, will now be put into operation at the Bureau of metrology. With this, the citizens will gain the opportunity for independent state verification of the correctness of their meters directly in an institution under state jurisdiction, which will contribute to increased transparency, trust and fairness in the measurement and billing of consumed energy.
The management team of Electricity Distribution stressed that the company continuously invests in the development of technology and in training professional staff, in order to maintain high precision and objectivity in meter testing.
Since 2012, when the Inspection Body first received accreditation, each subsequent review has been successfully renewed with positive evaluations from the highest state and international bodies. The Meter Inspection Body of Electricity Distribution is an accredited inspection body of type “B,” which operates according to European standards and covers inspection of meters for initial, periodic, and extraordinary verification, metrological quality testing and extraordinary inspection of accuracy (A-test), with the aim of ensuring precision, reliability and trustworthiness in the measurement of consumed electricity.
