The Gas Interconnector and Energy Market as Key Topics – Bozhinovska Meets with H.E. Ambassador of Greece Filippidou

Minister Bozhinovska Holds Meeting with Greek Ambassador Sofia Filippidou.

 

The Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, held a working meeting today with the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic, H.E. Sofia Filippidou. The meeting focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on regionally significant projects.

 

Both officials emphasized the importance of constructing the gas interconnector with Greece, which will contribute to energy stability and diversification of energy sources in the region. Minister Bozhinovska highlighted that this project is of strategic importance for the country and will enable more efficient natural gas supply.

 

Additionally, the discussion included market coupling initiatives with Greece, aiming to integrate North Macedonia’s electricity market into the single European market. The Minister informed that the National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO) introduced the euro as a trading currency in the first quarter of 2025, which marks a key step toward this integration.

 

Ambassador Filippidou emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between the stock exchanges of both countries, which will bring significant benefits to both economies and to the region as a whole.

 

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to further intensify energy sector cooperation.
