The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources and the Macedonian Society of Geologists "Geolog" signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today, which officially opens a new chapter of partnership between the institutions and the professional community in the field of geology, mining and natural resource management.
The Memorandum aims to establish long-term and systematic cooperation in the areas of geological exploration, the application of environmentally friendly and efficient mining practices, as well as raising public awareness of the importance of geological sciences and mineral resources.
"Cooperation with the professional and academic community is an essential part of the reforms we are implementing in the sector. This Memorandum is part of our commitment to transparent, professional and sustainable management of mineral resources, with clear responsibility towards the environment", the minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozinovska said.
The agreement envisages joint work on expert and legal solutions, as well as support in the development of national strategies for the exploration and use of mineral resources.
“This step is an important confirmation that the voice of the expert community will have a significant impact on policymaking in our field. Geology is not only a science about the Earth’s past – it is the key to our energy future” prof. Dr. Sonja Lepitkova, president of the Society of Geologists emphasized.
Within the framework of this cooperation, the Society will provide expert support, participate in working groups and contribute to the preparation of legal and technical solutions. As part of the implementation of this Memorandum, both parties will work on joint projects, educational campaigns and support for decision-making process based on science and evidence.
