The Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources held a press-conference today, whereas the minister Sanja Bozhinovska presented the Annual plan for the construction of energy facilities for 2026.
Within the Annual Plan for 2026, the Ministry received a total of 284 initiatives from interested investors, following a public call published in September 2025, with a submission deadline of October 1st, 2025, in accordance with the Energy law. After the verification and evaluation procedure, a ranking list based on the principle „first come–first served “ was prepared, whereby 67 initiatives for construction of new energy facilities for electricity production with an installed capacity equal to or greater than 1 MW were accepted.
The accepted projects include:
- 59 photovoltaic power plants with a total installed capacity of 3.014,103 MW and an estimated investment of 2.109.872.100 EUR,
- 7 wind power plants with a total capacity of 907,7 MW and an investment of 1.180.010.000 EUR,
- 1 cogeneration gas power plant with an installed capacity of 495 MW and an investment of 445.500.000 EUR.
The total installed capacity of the facilities covered by the Plan amounts 4.416,803 MW, while the total estimated investment value is 3.735.382.100 EUR.
A significant segment of the Plan covers electricity storage systems, which are crucial for the stability and flexibility of the power system. The Plan includes:
- 77 integrated storage systems within the existing or new power plants, with a total installed capacity of 1.389,68 MW and a storage capacity of 3.465,96 MWh,
- 19 isolated storage systems with an installed capacity of 637,518 MW and a capacity of 1.494,746 MWh.
In total, the Plan covers 96 electricity storage systems, with a combined capacity of 2.027,198 MW, storage capacity of 4.960,706 MWh and an estimated investment of 1.984.282.400 EUR.
Additionally, the Annual Plan includes 56 energy facilities from the municipal energy plans submitted by 7 municipalities–Makedonski Brod, Lozovo, Debarca, Kavadarci, Kumanovo, Brvenica and Kocani. These are photovoltaic power plants with a total installed capacity of 51,8795 MW, as well as 61 electricity storage systems with a total capacity of 27,6792 MW and storage capacity of 117,56 MWh, highlighting the role of municipalities in energy transition.
The Plan also incorporates preliminary grid and market analyses from the draft-Integrated study, prepared in accordance with the Law by the Transmission System Operator (TSO) MEPSO AD and the Operator of the Electricity Distribution System Elektrodistribucija LLC, in cooperation with the Ministry. The analyses ensure system stability, N-1 security, as well as calculations of investment costs and the deadlines for connecting new energy facilities, including the need for additional grid investments.
„Our goal is clear balance–economic development, protection of environment and strong public interest. These are the documents that bring order, security and a long-term vision into the energy sector “, Bozhinovska emphasized.
Minister Bozhinovska pointed out that this plan will ensure higher standards, more strict control and clear rules, with a balance between energy security, protection of environment and public interest.
The Ministry will continue with transparent implementation and regular public updates on the execution of the Annual Plan.
With regards,
Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources
