Bozhinovska on a field visit to „Mermeren Kombinat Prilep“: Macedonian resources must create greater added value at home

The minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska carried out a field visit to the mines and production facilities of Mermeren Kombinat AD Prilep, a company that excavates one of the most recognizable industrial brands of the country and a significant exporter of Macedonian marble on the global market.

During the visit, the minister conducted a direct insight of the marble exploitation process at the deposit, as well as the working conditions, the machinery and the procedures the plant uses during excavations.

The company’s management informed the minister about the ongoing investments in modernization the machinery, technological processes of excavation, workplace safety, and measures for the rational use of natural resources. Special emphasis was placed on the sustainable use of the deposit and preserving its potential with care for the environment.

The meeting also covered topics regarding:

  • Adherence to environmental standards and the obligations from concession agreements,
  • Safety conditions for employees and technological improvements in production,
  • Contribution of the company to the local economy and employment in the Prilep region,
  • The possibilities for further increasing added value through final processing of products.

Minister Bozhinovska emphasized that such field visits are essential for gaining a realistic understanding of how the sector functions and for creating policies based on actual conditions.

„Natural resources are national capital, and their exploitation must bring greater economic benefit to the state and its citizens. Our priority is for natural resources to provide long-term benefits—through investments, new technologies, safe working conditions and a higher degree of final processing. Mining plays a strong economic role, but its development must be responsible, transparent and aligned with the highest standards. Our goal is clear-modern, responsible and competitive mining that creates value at home, opens jobs, and ensures sustainable development. Companies that invest in technology, safety and environmental protection are important partners in economic development“, Bozhinovska stressed.

The visit is part of the broader activities of the Ministry aimed at increased presence in the field, better communication with the industry and improving supervision and sustainable management of mineral resources.
