Green Financing: Affordable Loans for Energy Efficient Homes and Businesses

Green Financing: Affordable Loans for Energy Efficient Homes and Businesses

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources supports the Green Financing initiative.

The third Steering Committee of the Green Finance Facility, part of the UN Joint Programme, was held at the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia—a revolutionary financial mechanism that enables access to affordable financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and households in North Macedonia.

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, as an active member and supporter of this initiative, is dedicated to encouraging investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The goal is to accelerate the transition to green solutions, reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, and mitigate climate change.

Key activities of the programme include providing affordable loans through local financial institutions to households and businesses that want to invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The programme includes technical assistance and performance-based grants (PBGs), covering up to 30% of the loan amount for households and up to 10% for companies, depending on the type of investment.

Expected outcomes over the next years include:

– Up to 105 businesses gaining access to green finance and technical assistance
– Up to 650 households receiving financing for renewable energy investments
– A 10.7 MW increase in renewable energy production in the country
– Avoidance of 80,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and 86,000 MWh energy savings

The Ministry remains committed to creating favorable conditions for green economic development by supporting initiatives like the Green Finance Facility.
