The Ministry participated in the 4-th Steering Committee of the „Green Financing Mechanism for improving air quality and fighting climate changes “

The 4th meeting of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Joint Programme „Green Financing Mechanism for improving air quality and fighting climate changes in North Macedonia “ was held in Skopje. The head of the Department for Energy Efficiency and climate change at the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources, Dimitar Parnadzhiev participated in the meeting as representative from the perspective of institutional competence in the field of energy efficiency and climate policies.

The results of the program’s implementation during the past period were presented at the meeting, along with the validation study of the achieved energy, climate and environmental effects, as well as the work plan and the key challenges for 2026.

The program, led by the United Nations Development Programme in partnership with the international organization for migration, and supported by the European bank for Reconstruction and Development and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe as implementing partners, provides access to favorable green financing for small and medium-sized enterprises and households for investments in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency measures.

According to the presented validation study, in the period 2023–2025 annual savings of 65.345 MWh of energy were achieved, along with a reduction of 50.701 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, as well as significant benefits for the air quality.

The Ministry welcomes the implementation of the program so far, which represents an important instrument for accelerating investments in energy efficiency and renewable sources, directly contributing to improved air quality and achieving national climate goals. The programme will continue to be implemented until 2027, with increased ambitions and expanded indicators for monitoring its effects.
