As part of the COP29 climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, held a meeting with representatives of the Energy Community Secretariat, as well as a bilateral meeting with the Director of the European Energy Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski.
The meeting focused on strategic issues for the region, including the progress of countries in the fields of energy and environmental protection, integration of natural gas markets, and support for the green energy transition.
Mr. Lorkowski emphasized the Energy Community's commitment to enhancing regional energy cooperation and supporting the implementation of carbon pricing policies—an essential step toward energy integration with the European Union. This initiative is also a key part of the European Green Deal, which aims to ensure long-term energy security and sustainability in the region.
Minister Bozhinovska expressed her support for the joint initiatives and stressed that North Macedonia remains strongly committed to aligning its national energy policies with European standards to promote economic growth and preserve the natural environment for future generations.
“We remain an active partner of the Energy Community and are committed to achieving our common goals in the energy transition,” Minister Bozhinovska stated, emphasizing that the country is making every effort to ensure timely and effective reforms.
Minister Bozhinovska informed the Director that the draft Law on Energy has been published on the Single National Electronic Register (ENER), allowing the public to review its contents. Director Lorkowski welcomed the news and announced that his team will review the draft and provide input to ensure alignment with EU legislation.
Representatives of both institutions agreed on the importance of inclusivity and collaboration among all regional stakeholders to effectively implement critical energy reforms.
