With the first flight of the new direct air route Skopje–Prague, the country is making a significant step forward in improving international connectivity, economic cooperation, and citizens’ mobility.
At the event marking the establishment of the route, the minister of energy, mining, and mineral resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, addressed the audience together with Czech ambassador Jaroslav Ludva, the general director of TAV Macedonia, Nejat Kurt, as well as representatives of Wizz Air.
As Chair of the Joint Commission for economic cooperation, the minister informed that the initiative for a direct air route was launched at the Joint Macedonian–Czech meeting in Prague in March this year, as part of a broader agenda to deepen bilateral relations and facilitate business communication.
Minister Bozhinovska emphasized that the establishment of the direct route is not a random move, but a result of a clear vision and concrete initiative.
“This air route is a real link between two economies, two markets, and two societies. Connectivity is a precondition for development. For me, this route has also a strong personal dimension. On August 20th, 1998, I moved to Prague, at a time when there was no direct flight between our two countries. The connectivity was complicated, expensive, and time-consuming. From 2005 to 2012 there was a direct route, and from personal experience I know how much a direct air connection means—not only symbolically, but for life, for business, and for everyday communication between people. That is why, from my very first day as minister, I have strongly advocated for deepening the ties between Macedonia and the Czech Republic and for creating real conditions that will ease that connectivity”, Bozhinovska stressed.
The direct Skopje–Prague air route will contribute to increased tourism and business traffic, better mobility for citizens, and stronger inclusion of North Macedonia in European economic flows.
Air transport is an important segment of the overall strategy for modern infrastructure, economic growth, and regional integration, with such projects being realized through coordinated cooperation between institutions and the private sector.
Minister Bozhinovska welcomed the cooperation between TAV Macedonia and Wizz Air, assessing it as an example of effective partnership that delivers concrete results for citizens and the economy.
