Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources

As of today, 7 October, Minister of energy, mining and mineral resources Sanja Bozhinovska is in Vienna, where upon the special invitation of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, she is participating in the “Women Leaders – Southeast Europe and the Black Sea/South Caucasus 2026” programme.

As part of the visit to Vienna, the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources is presenting the country’s energy priorities to relevant European institutions, public-sector representatives, diplomats and future decision-makers, with the aim of creating new opportunities for cooperation, exchanging experiences and advancing partnerships in the energy sector.

The “Women Leaders 2026” programme, organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, is dedicated to strengthening women’s leadership and addressing contemporary challenges in the public sector. Minister Bozhinovska’s participation provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and address issues of importance for the future of the region and Europe, including leadership, crisis management, gender equality and digital diplomacy.

Energy cooperation between Macedonia and Austria is one of the key components of the visit. Minister Bozhinovska will hold a working meeting with Severin Gruber, Secretary-General of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism of Austria. The discussions will focus on bilateral and economic cooperation, energy transition, energy security, and opportunities to establish and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

A special part of the agenda is dedicated to young people and future diplomats. Minister Bozhinovska will address and deliver a lecture to students at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, focusing on the energy transition and current developments in Macedonia’s energy sector.

The students will be presented with the reforms and processes transforming Macedonia’s energy system – the development of renewable energy sources, the modernization of energy infrastructure, the gradual phase-out of coal, and the implementation of a just energy transition. The presentation will also cover priorities related to energy security, diversification of supply, regional interconnection and integration into the European energy market.

Against the backdrop of the new energy and geopolitical reality in Europe, regional energy connectivity is of particular importance. In this context, new energy corridors, including the Vertical Gas Corridor, play a significant role in enhancing security and diversifying energy supplies.

Through its active international agenda, the Ministry continues to build partnerships across the region and Europe, create opportunities for new investment and cooperation, and position Macedonia’s energy interests within broader European processes. The visit to Vienna is aimed at creating concrete opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of experience in the energy sector, with a focus on a secure, modern and sustainable energy future.
