MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION IN THE GAS SECTOR BETWEEN NORTH MACEDONIA AND SERBIA

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of the Republic of North Macedonia signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of the gas sector with the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, at the Government premises.

The gas interconnector North Macedonia – Serbia has been designated as a Leading Project for energy networks within the framework of EUSAIR (EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region), which will ensure supply security for the region of Southeast Europe and the EU through the implementation of projects from the EU's Southern Gas Corridor and the Trans-Balkan Gas Ring, by diversifying supply routes and sources.

The memorandum envisions examining the possibility of developing a new direct connection between the two gas systems. Within 9 months, a Feasibility Study and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Study will be prepared for the new gas interconnection between the two countries.

Based on the results of technical and market research and taking into account the existing gas transmission infrastructure on both sides, the Parties will analyze and take appropriate decisions for the implementation of the project and coordinate further actions.
