Coordinative Meeting with the Data Single Market Alliance – North Macedonia Strengthens International Cooperation, Open Doors for Global Experts

A coordinative meeting was held today at the Government with representatives from the Data Single Market Alliance, an initiative that unites government institutions, international organizations, and technology companies to create digital infrastructure for data exchange and support green transition. In addition to the alliance representatives, the meeting was also attended by representatives of the HBAR Foundation, who expressed their intention to support the financing of such projects, as well as representatives from Reactive, who will provide local context and support for implementing the Initiative.

The meeting presented key initiatives of the Alliance, including solutions for reporting, digital infrastructure for emissions trading, and investment opportunities in green technologies. The discussion focused on the opportunities provided by this initiative in the context of digital transformation, data exchange, and support for green transition.

The General Secretary of the Government, Igor Janushev, emphasized that the Government is committed to advancing digital and energy transformation through partnerships with international organizations and technology companies.

“This event comes at a time when the Government of North Macedonia is actively implementing the National Development Strategy for the period 2024–2044. Within this strategy, energy is a key segment, not only for economic stability but also in the context of climate change and green transition. We are pleased to host this group of experts and professionals who are uniting forces for the digital and green transformation of our economy. Recognized experts, using proven digital solutions. More importantly, it offers an opportunity to lead this initiative and position North Macedonia as a regional leader in sustainability and digital innovations while simultaneously fostering our economic resilience and environmental progress,” said Janushev.

“North Macedonia remains committed to digital transformation and the green agenda, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. The Government is actively working on aligning with European regulations such as CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) and CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), which will significantly impact Macedonian companies, particularly in industrial sectors that export to the EU. This will contribute to economic stability and sustainable development,” stated Minister Bozhinovska.

During the discussion, opportunities for cooperation in emissions trading, investing in green technologies, and developing digital tools to ease the processes of aligning with European requirements were identified. Government representatives and international partners shared views on further cooperation in these areas, and discussions will continue to determine specific steps for joint initiatives.

This meeting represents a step forward in North Macedonia's efforts to improve economic competitiveness and create conditions for sustainable development through digital and ecological transition.
