North Macedonia is reinforcing its commitment to a just energy transition by participating in the 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, held in Bangkok, Thailand. Organized by the five UN regional commissions, the forum takes place under the theme “Just Energy Transition,” bringing together key decision-makers, experts, and organizations to promote global cooperation on energy sustainability.
Representing the Ministry of Energy at this important conference is Elena Ivanovska, M.A., Government Cabinet Officer for Monitoring Strategic Priorities of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia. Ivanovska took part in several key panels, including:
-
The session on just transition policies, where she emphasized North Macedonia’s efforts to ensure energy access for all citizens, with a focus on social responsibility and equity.
-
The discussion on global green investments, where she presented opportunities for investing in renewable energy in North Macedonia, as well as the country’s plans to enhance energy security.
In her address, Ivanovska stated:
“Participation in such forums is extremely important for North Macedonia. We see this platform as an opportunity to highlight our efforts in developing renewable energy sources and creating strategies for energy resilience. The exchange of best practices and connection with global experts enables us to strengthen our capacity to implement green policies and promote economic growth based on sustainable principles.”
Special thanks go to UNDP North Macedonia for their support in facilitating participation in this forum, which opened doors for new partnerships and enhanced cooperation.
The Minister of Energy, Ms. Sanja Bozhinovska, through a letter to UNECE (the UN regional commission organizing the forum), initiated the possibility for North Macedonia to host the next International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in 2025. This move positions the country as a regional leader in the green transition, showcasing its commitment to international cooperation and sustainable energy development.
