We aim for stable prices, competitiveness, and better access to renewable energy sources – Bozhinovska addresses the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community

The Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, addressed the 22nd Ministerial Council of the Energy Community held in Vienna, Austria.

During the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community, attended by the ministers responsible for energy from the nine contracting parties of the Energy Community Treaty, debates were held regarding the upgrade of the decarbonization roadmap, as well as topics related to water management, habitats, and wild birds, aiming at the future introduction of additional legislative obligations in these areas.

In her speech, Bozhinovska emphasized the country's commitment to the energy transition, economic sustainability, and climate neutrality. She highlighted the progress made in the energy sector, particularly in legislation and aligning national regulations with European legislation. The Minister informed the attendees about the intensive activities of the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources in the realization of key infrastructure projects aimed at eliminating technical barriers in the energy network and strengthening regional cooperation.

“We are intensively working on the current energy interconnection with Albania, we will continue connecting with Greece, Serbia, and Kosovo, and at the same time, we will continue modernizing our electricity network, which will enable further integration of renewable energy. These projects will stimulate economic growth and increase energy supply security. At the same time, improving energy connectivity through the integration of the national electricity market with the single European electricity market will ensure stable prices, competitiveness, and better access to renewable energy sources. We look forward to continuing to merge the electricity market as soon as possible. We are committed to fulfilling our climate obligations as well,” Bozhinovska stated in her address.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning, Izet Mezhiti, also attended the Energy Community meeting alongside Minister Bozhinovska.

The Energy Community is an international organization that facilitates energy cooperation between the EU and the nine contracting parties: North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine, with three permanent observers: Armenia, Norway, and Turkey. Its main goal is to bring the contracting parties closer to the EU by facilitating reforms and gradually expanding the EU law on energy, environment, and climate.
