Bozinovska from the Italy-Macedonia Business Forum: "The green transition has already begun - and Macedonia is leading!"

The Minister of energy, mining and mineral resources, Sanja Bozinovska, participated at the "Italy - North Macedonia" Business Forum, aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on investments in infrastructure and energy.

Within the framework of the plenary session and the panel dedicated to the energy transition and the circular economy, minister Bozinovska presented Macedonia's plans and results in the field of renewable energy sources, indicating that the country is already recognized as a leader in the region with over 1000 MW of installed capacity.

"This is not a coincidence - but the result of serious reforms and investments in state capacities and in partnership with the private sector", the minister emphasized.

As of 2024, a total of 1,494 renewable power plants with a combined installed capacity of 1,663 MW are operating in the country, representing 56% of the total installed energy power in the country.

The growth of photovoltaic power plants is particularly notable, with their share in production constantly growing.

Among the key state projects announced by Bozinovska are the construction of a 200 MW solar power plant, a new 100 MW wind park in Miravci, as well as the expansion of the „Bogdanci“ wind park. She also announced the start of new private investments, including the 400 MW „Alcazar Energy“ wind park and the „Stipion“ solar park of „Acqua Energy“ from France, with a planned capacity of 360–400 MW.

The minister underlined that the Ministry is introducing new strategic planning through the new Energy Law, which provides annual and long-term plans for the development of new capacities, in order to ensure predictability and stability for both the state and investors.

"Without a strong and modern energy grid, renewable energy capacities will not be able to be integrated. That is why investments in the transmission and distribution grid are our absolute priority", Bozinovska said, announcing a new 10-year plan for grid development and the introduction of battery energy storage systems as a mandatory part of all new capacities.

New opportunities for Italian companies in the field of energy and infrastructure were also discussed as well as topics for regional connectivity, joint projects and strengthening public and private partnerships in the spirit of the green transition.
