North Macedonia and Hungary strengthened the strategic energy cooperation – a delegation from the ministry at the fifth session of the Joint Committee

The fifth session of the Mixed committee for economic cooperation between North Macedonia and Hungary brought new dimension to bilateral energy cooperation, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and energy supply security.
A delegation from the Ministry of energy, mining and mineral resources, led by the state secretary Goran Jovanovski, participated at the session of the Mixed Committee, whereas the joint strategic priorities and commitments in energy were confirmed. Expert working groups from both ministries of energy aligned strategic points that will advance energy infrastructure, efficiency and innovation.
The signing of the protocol defining joint energy goals and activities, was held as the concluding act of the Committee session, which covered multiple sectors, with the aim of promoting regional stability and energy security.
The session of the Mixed committee reaffirmed the strategic commitment of both countries for strengthening the regional energy stability. Cooperation in energy remains a key pillar of our relations. We reaffirmed the importance of uninterrupted natural gas supply, support for infrastructure projects that enhance the security and resilience of our energy systems, recognizing that ensuring a secure and sustainable energy future is a shared responsibility", secretary of state Goran Jovanovski stated.

Jovanovski and the Macedonian delegation also held bilateral meetings with the chairman of the Joint committee, Peter Sztaray, as well as with Petar Holicza, deputy secretary of state of the Hungarian Ministry of energy, where they reinforced their joint commitment to developing infrastructure, improving energy efficiency and modernization of electricity generation systems.

"The exchange of good practices and expertise in the functioning of the energy market is of key importance. We are encouraged by the progress in the technical dialogue on geothermal energy. The modernization of REK Bitola, focusing on dry or hybrid cooling systems is another area whereas our cooperation can bring real benefits. The deepened cooperation between HUPX and MEMO will further facilitate market integration, data exchange and capacity development, promoting transparent and efficient operation of the electricity market in our region”, Jovanovski emphasized.

The session clearly showed that the cooperation between the two countries is not limited only to signing protocols. It is based on trust, expertise and a vision for a sustainable energy future, which will ensure security and prosperity for the entire region.
