Building the Future: Reducing Brain Drain and Supporting the Energy Transition

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Miroslav Labudović, took part in a panel discussion within the Skills4Justice.eu SKILLS4JUSTICE project, addressing the topic: “From Research to Policy: Leveraging Data for Fair Migration.”

At a time when migration is one of the major challenges facing societies across Europe, it is essential that policies are based on relevant data and research. This approach enables the creation of fair, inclusive, and sustainable solutions that protect rights and strengthen social cohesion.

Of particular concern is the brain drain of highly educated professionals from the Republic of North Macedonia. While this trend may not be entirely preventable, the country must make every effort to mitigate it. By creating better opportunities for young people, improving economic conditions, and building a society where they see their future, we can reduce the need for emigration.

“In addition, the energy sector is facing a shortage of skilled professionals – a challenge that is becoming increasingly relevant with the accelerating transition to clean energy. We are actively working on retraining and upskilling personnel in this sector to build a competent and prepared workforce for the energy system of the future,” stated Deputy Minister Labudović.

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources remains focused on improving conditions for youth, bringing in new ideas and solutions to enhance both migration policy and the energy transition. Our goal is to create inclusive, sustainable, and strategically driven policies that meet citizens’ needs and improve the quality of life in our society.

Respectfully,
Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources
